No matter whether you are young or old, or whether you have gone camping to enjoy the beauty of nature, camping games are somewhat of a must, and a tradition, and should definitely be on your checklist when you pack for camping.
And don’t worry, these games don’t need to be complicated or bulky, a few of these games are easy to carry and no fuss.
Here are the camping games you can think of carrying when you are going camping:
- Scavenger hunt
This is an oldie but Goldie. A scavenger hunt is an exciting way to kick start your camping trip whether you are travelling with friends or with your family that includes children. This all-inclusive game. You can just put together a simple list of scavenger hunt items that can be found at your campsite, be it multi-color rocks, feathers, flowers or a cool twig. The list is limitless. The best part is you don’t need to carry these items home or remove them from their place, the participants can just show the item to someone else in the group or take a photo as proof. - Pass the water
This is an easy, fun game because everyone can play. Ask the players to stand in a line and get those paper cups out. The first player should have a full cup of water and dump it on the next cup which will be on the next player’s head. This process moves down the line. This might be a bit of a messy game since some people are not very accurate with their pouring. - The Alphabet Game
If you have younger kids who are coming with you this is a great game to play even at the campsite or when you are travelling. The first player needs to state one object or person with the first letter of the alphabet A, and then the next player needs to state an object or place with the last letter of the object or place given by the first player and, so on. - Ball Games
You can take one normal sized ball, and the possibility of playing game with it is endless. - Pass the ball
Don’t underestimate the value of the simple pass the ball game and the joy it can bring with it. It’s a great way to unwind when you are outdoors and also be able to chat with your fellow campers when you are playing this game. - Volleyball
It’s fun, it gives you a little cardio workout, and it’s a team sport–volleyball is one of the best sports you can play in camping with a ball that doesn’t require much set-up but at the same time, it’s a beachy, fun, sport. - S-P-U-D
Choose one player at the center. The rest of the players form a circle and are assigned a number. The player in the middle shouts someone’s number and throws the ball to that player. The player whose number has been called has to catch the ball and yell ‘S-P-U-D’ after this. Meanwhile other campers start running away from the center, and have to freeze after the ball is caught. The player with the ball can take a few steps towards the player and throw the ball at them. The player can dodge the ball, but can’t move their feet. If hit, the player takes an ‘S.’ If missed the thrower gets an ‘S.’ Once a player reaches “S-P-U-D,” they’re out. Definitely a fun game to play when you are camping with your friends right? - Storytime
One of the best things about camping is a campfire. And telling stories when sitting around a circle at night. Rather than just telling stories, you can either indulge in the campier tradition of telling ghost stories or play a fun story building game. Here the first player starts with the premise of the story, the next player builds more onto it, and so on. Get as creative as possible, and who knows, by the end of the night, you might have a pretty unbelievable story that will you can laugh about. - Camping Charades
Charades can be played anytime, anywhere. But it’s a more fun when played by the campfire. - Card Games
Card games are fun to play, no matter what the place. Whether you are playing your basic game of UNO, or playing with a set of playing cards, playing these games by the campfire is a different experience all together. - Star-Gazing
Camping is one of the best places to indulge in activities like star-gazing or star watching. The night sky is pretty clear since there are no city lights blinding the view. Just imagine the beauty of the night sky when you are out gazing at the sky. You can even spot a few constellations in the sky.
Conclusion
No matter what camping games you play, just remember it’s not about whether the game is too childish, it’s just important to have fun!
